We carry out a full range of operations on the maneuvering area from bottoming out to airfield topping cuts using our 8m Schulte mowers capable of cutting up to 180ha per day!
Current clients include Heathrow Airport, Gatwick Airport, Southampton Airport, London City Airport and Southend Airport along with the MOD and other airfields.
Airfield works undertaken include:
- Airfield grass topping using 8m Schulte toppers.
- Bottoming out.
- Selective weed control.
- Fertiliser/Lime application.
- Total weed control in cracks/joints and hard standing areas (Please see WEED IT section for further details on this innovation).
- Strimming around airfield obstructions.
- Hedge/Ditch cutting with 8m reach machines.
- Airfield reinstatement to CAP 772 standard.
- Endophytic grass seeding
Bottoming Out
Bottoming out is carried out using a 3m front mower and a 70cu.m forage wagon coupled to a 300hp tractor. Fitted with low ground pressure tyres, this system keeps tractor movement on the airfield to a minimum along with minimizing soil compaction.
Weed Control & Fertilizer
Other operations include fertilizer/lime application, selective weed control using 30m reach boom sprayer, strimming around all maneuvering area obstructions and spraying all cracks and joints for total weed control.
Novel Endophyte Grass
Novel endophyte grass has been developed to deter bird feeding on the grass at airports. The endophytic grass is infected with a natural fungus that lives in a symptomless mutual relationship with the grass. The endophyte produces certain alkaloids that deter insect and herbivore feeding thereby protecting the grass and improving its survival. The endophytic grass utilises specially selected endophytes chosen for producing enhanced levels of alkaloids that reduce insect population numbers as well as deterring herbivorous bird feeding of the grass foliage.
Qualified Staff
