Institute of Animal Health, Compton

JS Agriculture were asked to carry out the harvesting of 50 acres of Lucerne as a trial at the Institute of Animal Health, Compton using our 70cu.m Strautmann forage wagon on low ground pressure tyres behind a Fendt 930 tractor. This method was trialled over conventional harvesting techniques due to minimal field movements thereby reducing compaction combined with the gentler handling of the crop whilst harvesting. A 25mm chop length was chosen with additive being applied from a front mounted tank.

So successful was the trial that we cleared all 50 acres easily in a day whilst proving the potential output of 75 acres as being a viable option. We have subsequently been invited back to carry out further Lucerne harvesting this year with the Institute contemplating its second cut silage being harvested by this method in the future
