JSA were invited to RAF Marham to work with both the RAF and Lagan Construction to come up with a solution for grass establishment and protection whilst the new RAF F35 was carrying out low level hover manoeuvers. RAF Marham is the new home to this fighter aircraft and is currently undergoing massive development, refurbishment and construction to accommodate this aircraft and its support. It was when the first planes arrived whilst the construction was underway that a potential problem was diagnosed. After site visits and talks with both Lagan and the RAF evaluating all the options, it was decided to carry out a trial of Flex-Terra Hydro-seeded mulch adjacent to a blast pad then subject this to the blast from a hovering jet. After fighting the poor weather whilst creating a seed bed, the product was applied and trial carried out with 100% success showing no movement of turf or soil! Never trialled before with this type of a/c it is nice to have worked out a solution going forward should further reinstatement be required.
