JSA have just completed the sowing of wild flower and barley mix at Horsenden Meadows for Ealing Council. As an annual operation, the 5 ha area was disc harrowed and drilled to restore the balance on the fields.
Ploughing breaks up the grasses and leaves the soil bare and loose over the winter. This encourages growth of plants adapted to disturbed soils. The meadows are very old and date back to medieval times and have a wide variety of wild flowers and grasses with each meadow of Horsenden Hill having a slightly different mixture.
